Food Knowledge You Picked Up by Eating
Almost nobody studies food deliberately, and yet most people carry a surprising amount of it — which country a dish comes from, what goes into a sauce, which spice is which. It accumulates through cooking, travelling and reading menus.
These quizzes are built on that kind of knowledge. They ask about dishes, ingredients and origins rather than technique, so you do not need to cook to do well.
The Questions That Catch People
Origins are the reliable trap. Several dishes everyone assumes are Italian, Chinese or French turn out to have been invented somewhere else entirely, often quite recently.
Ingredients are the other one. A cook who uses a spice weekly can still be unsure whether it is a seed, a bark or a dried flower.
Common Questions
- Do I need to be a good cook?
- Not at all. These are questions about food as most people meet it — in restaurants, on shelves and on holiday — not about kitchen skill.
- Are regional differences taken into account?
- Where a dish or an ingredient goes by different names in different countries, the question either avoids the ambiguity or accepts the name most widely used.
